"THE MAGNIFICENT THREE"
ON THE COMMON
Our focus up at Camp Hi Rock this Spring might appear downright un-American! It is not something our culture commonly accepts. And almost certainly we grew up without it.
The Village of Brothers is inviting every man to attend the Spring Retreat in order to recognize, affirm, and admire Three Magnificent Things about himself, about each one of us...that is, beside being men in the first place.
Imagine how it might feel to do that! We do this so little, it might appear strange, even alien. Many of us have grown up hearing exactly the opposite. “Who do you think you are anyway?” “You'll get a swelled head.” “Don't be so smart, mister!” “You're getting too big for your britches.” “Mister big shot!”
And today, each one of us very likely carries some word that diminishes himself. If I let myself go, let my energy rip, stand up and shine, I'll be selfish, egotistical, conceited, greedy, arrogant…each one of us invents his own.
The nasty thing about such “bring myself down” words is that most often they lay hidden inside us. They seldom speak out loud or show themselves in broad daylight. They just silently blight any effort a man makes to show his gifts to the world.
David Kaar and John Guarnaschelli invite all men to join On The Common Ground in the Village of Brothers for an exploration of just how magnificent each one of us is. We will use exercises and the Sweat Lodge to see how each man feels about being magnificent.
Of course, as usual, our gathering is not about submitting to a philosophy. We will honor each man's own experience and whatever feelings come up when he confronts the possibility of being magnificent. But we will seek to witness our own, and seek to witness the magnificent things in every men present.
Please join us and add what is magnificent about yourself to the treasures present for the weekend.
