"LONELINESS AND FRIENDSHIP"
ON THE COMMON
WHO: Led by DMITRI BILGERE & JOHN GUARNASCHELLI.
This Fall's Retreat: LONELINESS AND FRIENDSHIP, feels dangerous, Something about it is very appealing. Yet, it also feels dread full!
One writer recently suggested that young boys are deeply wounded in their hearts. And, that adult men carry this wound for life in all we do.
Perhaps that's why the "loner" is so constant in our image of ourselves: the Gary Cooper cowboy, the "I lied" Schwarzenegger tough guy, the hard driving executive, and every man who has "no close male friends" and can really "only talk to women."
It seems to come down to this: At bottom, I'm not sure I'm allowed to be with myself, who I really am. So, I certainly can't approach you openly, or try to know who you are. Good times or bad, I go it alone.
Coming to the "Village of Brothers" Retreat is a good example of how this works. "I very much need to attend the Retreat and experience its healing revelations about aloneness. I need it too much, better stay away!"
This Fall our Village of Brothers gathers at Camp Hi Rock to dance in Loneliness and Friendship.
Exercises, discussion, silence, play, ritual, music and dance will allow every man to explore his own messages together with brothers he can share them with.
How alone am I? Can I learn to keep myself company? What does that mean? What can I learn here about connecting with you and others? What gifts for friendship do I have? Which can I learn from you?
If these feelings are as deep and as wide spread as my experience tells me, then every man reading these lines must have a wealth of personal knowledge, questions and answers he can bring to our dance.
Our Village will be richer for your gifts of loneliness, longing, joy, and friendship. Please consider adding them to our circle.
